Welcome to “Graphic Descriptions.” This blog provides a big-picture look at our global 21st century civilization. Every week or two I will add a new post. Nearly every one will feature an original graph along with a short description and commentary. Topics will include energy and food systems, material flows, economic growth, consumerism, industry, transport, healthcare, debt, income, and well-being. Whenever possible, the graphs will cover time-periods reaching back centuries or millennia. A long-term view reveals the extraordinary power and peril of our petro-industrial consumerist civilization.
For non-commercial purposes, I encourage reusing, sharing, and reprinting my graphs, so long as proper credit is given and a link to this site is included. Proper citation should include my name, Darrin Qualman, the name of this blog, Graphic Descriptions, at the address of my website, www.darrinqualman.com. Commercial use can also be arranged on affordable and convenient terms. Please contact me.
Over the past three decades I have assembled a large collection of long-term datasets. I have experience and skills in locating historic data. I would be happy to consult regarding the production of custom datasets or graphs.
