Darrin Qualman is a long-term thinker, a civilizational critic, a researcher and data analyst, and an avid observer of the big picture.
He has spent much of the past seven years researching and writing his recent book, Civilization Critical. During that same time, Darrin also returned to university to obtain two additional degrees: a B.Sc in biology and a B.A. in history. He also has a B.A. in political science.
From 1996 to 2010, he was a top staff-person and the primary researcher and writer for the National Farmers Union, a Canadian organization of farm families. His work focused on food, agriculture, energy, climate change, the environment, the economy, and trade. Until recently, he served as a member of the Board of Directors of the international technology-assessment organization ETC Group.
In the 1990s, Darrin operated his family’s farm in Saskatchewan, Canada.
He recently installed a solar-panel array and is shopping for an electric car.
