Civilization Critical, Darrin Qualman, front cover

Civilization Critical: Energy, Food, Nature, and the Future is now available.  My book provides a big-picture look at the creation of our petro-industrial mega-civilization, and concrete proposals regarding how we might restructure it so that some version can be sustained into the future.

About this blog

Welcome to “Graphic Descriptions.” This blog provides a big-picture look at our global 21st century civilization. Every week or two I will add a new post. Nearly every one will feature an original graph along with a short description and commentary. Topics will include energy and food systems, material flows, economic growth, consumerism, industry, transport, healthcare, debt, income, and well-being. Whenever possible, the graphs will cover time-periods reaching back centuries or millennia. A long-term view reveals the extraordinary power and peril of our petro-industrial consumerist civilization.
